The Bed Bug Boot Camp
will explore the bed bug epidemic and risk to housing organizations. Why are
we experiencing a surge in infestations? Hear about their biology, how they
hunt for us and the warning signs that bed bugs are present. Learn about the
latest technology and strategies to combat bed bugs, canine inspections,
traditional control measures and advancements in heat treatments. What is
your plan of action when bed bugs are discovered and what does the future
hold?
Trainer Jeffrey A. Weier of Sprague Pest Solutions will cover the historical perspective; details of where bed bugs live and how they reproduce; THEIR HUNT (how do they find us and what is important to them); OUR HUNT (warning signs, how to inspect for infestation, and inspection tools that work); weapons we can use such as dustings, liquids, vacuuming and heat treatments; action strategies; and useful ways to educate your residents and managers. Education works when a resident reports an infestation early and management acts promptly based on established procedures that support a zero-tolerance policy for bed bugs. All people living and working in the building must know of the zero-tolerance policy and everyone must understand his or her part. As a leading authority on stored product pests, Jeffrey A. Weier BCE is an accomplished speaker, technical trainer and author on several topics including pest prevention, stored product pests, pest population mapping and sanitation. Mr. Weier is a Board Certified Entomologist. He received his Bachelor of Science from Loyola University in Chicago and earned his Master of Science in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Northwestern University.

FAIR HOUSING
means the right to live where a person chooses, with dignity and without
discrimination. The Federal
Fair Housing Act says that no one can deny housing to people because of
their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or
disability. These groups are
called “protected bases.” Some
local cities and counties have laws that include additional protected
groups, such as age, sexual orientation, or having a section 8 voucher.
This workshop will review
the principle fair housing laws; Federally-protected categories; key
provisions of the Fair Housing Act; special issues regarding familial status
and national origin; key provisions of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
of 1973; additional protections for persons with disabilities; and
owner/manager liability.
Whether you are a new property manager interested in learning the basics, or
a veteran seeking a refresher, this course should not be missed.
THE INSTRUCTOR is Karen
Crosta of KDC Solutions LLC.
Karen has over
twenty years of experience in the affordable multifamily housing field.
