Breaking News!  June 2, 2008:
AHMA of WA and the Seattle Office of Housing Announce their Green Turn Initiative!

The Green Unit Turn Initiative offers affordable housing owners and managers guidance on cost-effective green operations and maintenance practices.  It builds on the City’s SeaGreen guiding principles, to:

             make it durable

             make it healthy

             reduce operating costs

             protect the environment

The information for the Green Unit Turn Initiative was gathered from experiences and recommendations of several affordable housing owners and managers who are engaging in cost effective green practices.  It by no means includes all the green choices or products that are available to you.  Start with these suggestions and build on them as you do your own Green Unit Turns.

DOWNLOAD this poster!  It is meant as a helpful reminder to staff which you can use to encourage Green Unit Turns. Print on a color printer, on legal size paper, and post it prominently in your on-site manager’s office.  Encourage your property management and maintenance staff to visit the website www.seattle.gov/housing/GreenUnitTurn for the whys and hows of Green Unit Turns.  Start being GREEN today!

2008 is Here, and We are Kicking Off the AHMA Green Turn Program and Model Document Initiative!

The AHMA Green Turn Program is being developed in partnership with the City of Seattle, Office of Housing.  Many owners and managers may be unaware of the huge operational cost savings achievable by incorporating "GREEN" into every apartment turn or move-in.  Converting to fluorescent lighting, installing ceramic tile, insulating windows, or installing low flow toilets - typically result in a huge return on investment and lower operating costs across our subsidized and assisted portfolios.  More information will be forthcoming.

The AHMA Model Document Initiative is in the final stages.  Working in partnership with our Performance Based Contract Administrator (Contract Management Services), the US Department of HUD and the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, a set of downloadable "model documents" will soon be available (for members of AHMA of Washington only).  While not "formally endorsed" by our agency partners, the documents have been reviewed for the essential elements.  As time goes on, and MORs or other compliance reviews provide enhancements, members are encouraged to provide Sheila King with these recommendations so that the master documents can be improved.  More information will be forthcoming.
